Groin hernia repair (GHR) is a very frequent surgical intervention practiced in daily routine. About 140,000 are performed every year in France according to the "Programme de Médicalisation des Systèmes d’Information" data . Ambulatory procedures/outpatient procedures/1-day surgery are defined, in France, as a hospital stay < 12 h. Outpatient surgery for GHR is considered to be a safe, feasible and cost-effective practice . Although outpatient surgery for GHR has become a common procedure, some factors still slow down its progression. The aim of this study was to assess the outpatient practice for GHR in France and to identify factors of preoperative selection and failure.
